We'd like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation for the great job you did in constructing our house in New Farm. Specifically, you and your team have particularly excelled in the following areas:
Quality of Workmanship
The quality of everything in the house from the foundations to finishes is superb. Numerous visitors have commented on the high quality of workmanship, even many who are in the building game themselves.
Following Through on Commitments
Throughout the project, when you gave us undertakings that you would do things, you always followed through on these commitments. We were able to relax with the knowledge that you were as good as your word.
Problem-Solving
In any one-off architect-designed house, there are sure to be some "challenges" in bringing certain elements of the design to reality. Ours was no exception. You demonstrated during these issues that you have an innovative approach to problem-solving that not only delivers a practical solution, but does so without compromising the integrity of the design. In several instances in our house, your solutions actually enhanced both the design and the functionality.
Rectification
In every project of this nature and complexity, it is inevitable that there will be some matters requiring rectification. It would be unreasonable to expect otherwise. To our mind, the key thing is the number of items requiring rectification (in our case very few) and how the builder responds to these items. In our experience, you were always quick to accept responsibility for prompt and high-quality rectification.
Communication
At all times during the project we were kept fully informed of developments and were consulted about each stage or issue as it arose.

Contract Variations
One often hears horror stories of enormous numbers of contract variations in the construction of a house. Many of our friends who have been through this process several times cannot believe how few variations we had in our project. The few variations which we did actually have usually arose from a change of mind on our behalf or the exigencies of the site (e.g. foundations). This is a testament to the accuracy of your estimating and quoting. You and Gerard have done a superb job in this respect.
And Most Importantly, TRUST
In any undertaking as important as building a home, many things need to be taken on trust. While the lawyers like to think that everything can or should be dealt with via contractual means, in reality this is rarely possible.
To avoid lengthy and costly delays during construction, many decisions need to be taken and acted upon speedily, often by telephone.
From the beginning, we felt that we could trust you and Gerard to take you at your word. You demonstrated repeatedly throughout the project that our faith was justified.
This removed an enormous burden from our minds. In summary, our experience with Contrast Constructions has been unstintingly positive.
Not only have we recommended you to several of our friends, but I guess the litmus test is "would we use Contrast again?" The answer is unreservedly "YES".
